Africa Hair Braiding Introduce
For residents across the Illinois region searching for a dedicated specialist in African hair artistry, **Africa Hair Braiding** offers a convenient and affordable option right in the heart of Chicago. Situated in the 60653 zip code, this women-owned establishment focuses on providing a wide array of protective and stylish hair solutions, solidifying its role as a key local resource for the community.
The salon’s primary appeal lies in its efficiency and the quality of its core service—braiding. Customers frequently highlight the impressive speed of the stylists, noting that complex styles like medium Fulani braids can be completed much "quicker than average braiders." This efficiency is a tremendous benefit for busy clients in Illinois who need extensive protective styles done without spending an entire day in the chair. For example, one happy client praised their stylist, Angie, as "very quick and efficient," completing a style on "a lot of hair" in just five hours.
Beyond speed, the salon has established itself as a versatile hair studio capable of managing various needs, from detailed braiding to hair coloring and hair replacement services. The business identifies as women-owned, contributing to the supportive, community-focused business landscape in Chicago.
However, clients should prepare for a cultural and operational style that requires clear communication. Feedback suggests some inconsistencies, particularly concerning pricing and hair preparation instructions. One customer reported a difference between a quoted Instagram price and the in-person price based on the hair used, though the issue was ultimately resolved. Additionally, the shop operates on a **cash-only** basis, which is an important detail for Illinois customers to note before arrival. While the atmosphere is generally professional and the final product is consistently praised, new visitors should be proactive in confirming all service details and their required hair supplies upfront to ensure a seamless experience.
Overall, Africa Hair Braiding is highly recommended for those seeking affordable, high-quality, and fast braiding services in a women-owned establishment that caters well to both adults and children.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I came here because my original stylist had to cancel.TLDR at the bottom1. Timing: I showed up and was seated for braiding in about 10 minutes. I asked for medium Fulani braids down a little past my shoulders and the style took 4 hours which is very fast !2. Service: I instagram messaged the salon with a picture of the style I wanted and she said $200. I ended up calling to see if I could get more answers because I know answering DMs can take a while. I asked his should my hair be before coming and she said “washed” and I’m like ok so I assumed it meant no blow dry. I washed and applied leave in conditioner. She had to blow dry my hair a little but they didn’t like blow dry and straighten before braiding which is great because minimal heat damage.I also asked what time they had available and she said just to come now and I asked if I could come in an hour and she said that’s fine. It was a Monday so perhaps they didn’t have any scheduled appointments.I also asked if I could bring my own hair and she said “yes”. I’ll add a picture of the hair I got but during the service the braided did complain a lot about how hard hair is hard to braid (both in her native language and in English) I did feel bad but on the other hand the woman on the phone should’ve specified what hair brands they work with and I would’ve bought that.3: Cost: I was quoted 200 via instagram . I wanted my braids to end at my shoulder and i wanted the remaining hair to be loose. Apparently they charge by the length of the hair they are braiding with and not the braided length - so she said with the hair I brought it would be $230 and not 200. Not really a problem but they only accept cash and I brought 240 bc I wanted to leave a $40 tip, so I said I could just come back another day then since I would be short on cash and they said since I’m already here they would do it for $200.4: Braids: I always heard african braiding shops braid too tight. Honestly my braids are tight but not in a bad way, I’m tenderheaded and I wasn’t in pain at all.Overall I would return if my in home braider isn’t available. The service was quick and affordable and turned out nice. The women in the shop talk a lot in their native language and it can feel like they are talking about you at times and sometimes the other women who work there will just stare at you. (I stare back because I’m a real N.) this stuff doesn’t bother me but if you have bad social anxiety this might not be the place for you. I pretty much read and watched TikTok the whole time. At the end they were all nice and said thank you and bye. Also asked me to go outside to take pictures (which I didn’t really want to do because I was tired af but I guess pictures means it turned out nice.)TLDR:Affordable, Good if you’re in a pinch, communication is a bit off, quicker than average braiders.First photo what I asked for (flip over Fulani braids)Second photo the hair I bought
February 27 · N. S.Angie did an amazing job on my braids! She was very quick and efficient! I have a lot of hair but it only took like 5 hours! She even took pictures and video of me at the end haha! And the braids are reasonably priced!
April 22 · Courtney J.been going here over 20 years & the service is terrible now all they're worried about is overpricing & the length when these styles been out. Today was a rush service my senegleass twist is so bogus I'm ready to take them out I've never not liked my twist then
February 12 · Madii'B MommyWent twice but will not return. They do not pay attention to detail at all especially when parting your braids, they would be all different sizes.Had to remove braids just after two weeks because they were way too tight and they used too much hair so it was too heavy and I wil l not let my hair fall out because of them. I specifically told them I didn't want micro braids but theydid anyway. .
July 25 · D CNot gonna lie, EVERY time I've come here for service, I've gotten exactly what I asked for if not better. Pretty affordable and they are QUICK. Come w/ CASH and be straight forward with what you want and when. The shop is not the most clean. When you call to set up a time and style, if you want to be serviced within a reasonable amount of time SAY SO. I have walked out of their shop multiple times (2-3) for telling me to wait 30 minutes to an hour when I called and make it clear to service me at the time you said. And you know what, when I came back (and remained pleasant) they not only remembered me but apologized.I also TIP them and that has made my experiences wayy better than how other folks experiences have been.BE PLEASANT to these ppl, treat them w/ respect and you will get the same in return.
