Daba African Hair Braiding Introduce
For residents of Illinois seeking authentic, durable African hair styling, Daba African Hair Braiding in Chicago provides specialized services with a clear focus on traditional techniques. Located on the bustling North Avenue corridor, this business is formally listed as a Hair replacement service, but its primary expertise lies in intricate, time-intensive protective styles like braiding and twisting, as evidenced by customer feedback citing Box Braids and Senegalese Twists. The style of service offered is characteristic of shops that prioritize the longevity and neatness of the final look, a crucial aspect for many clients investing significant time and money into their hair.
The shop’s approach is defined by its commitment to a very tight braid, which is intended to ensure maximum durability and neatness for an extended period. This particular feature is a highlight for some clients, as it signifies a long-lasting style. However, it is an important aspect of the experience that new patrons must be fully aware of before booking, as customer reviews strongly suggest that the tightness can result in initial discomfort. One candid reviewer even humorously suggests taking a pain reliever beforehand, emphasizing that while the final result is beautiful and long-lasting, the process can be intense. The shop's service is time-consuming, with major styles like box braids and Senegalese twists often taking up to seven hours to complete.
Daba African Hair Braiding is located at 5112 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60639, USA. This address places it within the Austin neighborhood, near the border with the Galewood and Humboldt Park communities, making it a local option for a large population on the west side of Chicago. North Avenue is a major thoroughfare, which ensures general accessibility for those traveling by car or using public transportation within the city.
In terms of internal accessibility and comfort, the facility provides basic, essential amenities. The presence of a Restroom is confirmed, offering a necessary comfort, especially considering the extensive duration of their primary services, which can last the better part of a day. However, client reviews also indicate that the physical environment may not meet the highest standards of cleanliness. Users in Illinois are advised to temper their expectations regarding the aesthetic environment and focus primarily on the specialized skill and the quality of the finished hairstyle. The accessibility of the shop rests on its convenient city location, while the internal focus remains squarely on the highly specialized hair artistry.
While the business is broadly categorized as a "Hair replacement service," the specific services offered are centered on long-term, protective styling, a cornerstone of African hair care. The highly detailed and time-intensive nature of these services requires specialized skill and patience, which the braiders at Daba African Hair Braiding are known to possess. Based on customer feedback and common offerings for similar African braiding shops in the Illinois area, the service list is primarily focused on styles that use extensions for length and volume.
Services Offered (Based on Customer and Industry Data)
- Box Braids: A highly requested protective style, known for taking approximately seven hours for a full head installation.
- Senegalese Twists (Rope Twists): Another long-duration, highly popular twist style, also noted by clients to take around seven hours.
- Kinky Twists and Passion Twists: Likely offered variations of protective twist styles.
- Cornrows/Feed-in Braids: Foundational braiding services, which often form the base for other complex styles.
- Microbraids: Though not explicitly stated, highly specialized and small braiding services are common for this type of establishment.
- Hair Extensions and Weaving: Given the "Hair replacement service" designation, they may offer sew-ins or weaving services, often in addition to braiding.
- Braid Take-Down and Touch-Ups: Essential maintenance services for long-term protective styles.
The main highlight of Daba African Hair Braiding is the finished product: a beautiful, durable, and tight protective style. Customers are overwhelmingly satisfied with the final look of their hair, describing it as "beautiful" and exceptionally tight, which translates directly to longevity—a significant factor when investing $200 or more and an entire day into a hairstyle. This focus on enduring quality is the primary value proposition.

What is worth choosing Daba African Hair Braiding is a decision based on a trade-off: prioritizing a long-lasting, beautiful final hairstyle over a luxurious or flawlessly clean in-shop experience. For Illinois residents who prioritize the longevity and neatness of their protective styles above all else, and who are willing to endure a tight braiding process and long service time, this shop delivers on its promise of a durable result. However, prospective clients must communicate their desired specifications—especially for size and length—with extreme clarity to avoid the dissatisfaction of styles being too bulky or too long, as was the experience of one customer. While the physical environment might be basic, the value lies in the specialized, labor-intensive skill that results in braids that will last, making it a reliable choice for long-term protective hair care in Chicago.

They braid hair really tight. WARNING: Before you get your hair done take some type of pain pill. It will help a lot. Takes 7 hours for box braids and Senegalese. Not to bad Service is okay. There shop is not the cleanest. But once your hair done it will be beautiful and tight but the pain pill will help. Your welcome.
