Alabasta Introduce
Alabasta in Oak Park, Illinois, offers a distinctive and appealing concept for the modern Illinois consumer, blending the functions of a specialized hair salon with a complementary boutique retail space. This unique business model establishes Alabasta as more than just a place to get a haircut; it is a wellness and beauty destination located within the artistic and cultural hub of the Oak Park Arts District. The salon focuses heavily on providing high-quality services for textured and natural hair, a specialization that is highly valued by local clients.
The operation is characterized by its intimate setting and professional approach. The business structure, which features a store/boutique area at the front and a dedicated salon space in the back, creates a multi-faceted customer experience. One customer highlights the pleasant demeanor of the staff and the easy parking, noting a positive experience with a thorough wash—a key first step in natural hair care. Another long-time patron expressed immense satisfaction, stating they felt "secure and confident" during a dramatic hair cut and color service and "love this place," underscoring the trust the owner and stylists inspire.
However, prospective clients should also note feedback regarding specific style execution and scheduling. One customer, while praising the wash service and the pleasantness of the stylist, reported that a mini twist style was underwhelming and began to unravel quickly, suggesting potential issues with rushing or product hold. This highlights the importance of open communication with the stylist regarding style expectations and longevity during the required consultation and booking process.

Alabasta Reviews
My stylist Teraneka was running behind but she was pleasant. And the other stylist also seemed nice and helped out at the end when I was wrapping up. I got a pretty good wash which was the main reason I was coming in after just taking down braids. Parking was also pretty easy. But I probably won't be going back. I booked the mini twists so I could have another protective style. She asked me how big I wanted the twists and for how long did I want them to last - I said they don't have to be micros but it would be great to last 2 weeks. Before I left when I did a quick look - they looked fine. Nothing impressive or sleek but seemed okay. The lighting isn't great and if I'm honest I was hungry. However, when I got home after dinner - I quickly realized this didn't look much better then when I do my own twists... And some were already unraveling in the middle or root of the twists. Maybe because she was late for her next appointment and was rushing or didn't use product with any hold - not sure but it's annoying. Luckily I primarily wanted a good wash and got that. I just wish I could find a spot that can do more than a blow out or extensions for natural hair. Also random - but when you walk in, it's like a store in the front and then a small area for doing hair in the back. I was surprised by this. There was just one hanging chair for you to wait in the front. Not necessarily bad or good just not what I expected.
December 21 · Kiara HI love this place. The owner is so pleasant. I got my hair cut and colored. Its the shortest that I've ever had it cut and I felt secure and confident that I would love it.
July 07 · N SI came in from out of town and not having been before, wasn't quite sure how it would go. Turned out great! If you want excellent, personal service, this is *the* place. For those who don't know:1) they take and do appointments one at a time so you're not going to be sitting there for hours. I was in and out in an hour because they don't play games. One client at a time. They won't even let the phone interrupt your appointment.2) they're super professional, pleasant and efficient3) Important: if you book your appointment online, regardless of what service you pick, put everything that you want done in the notes!4) If you show up and it looks like the place is closed, that's because the owner has probably run home (read: couple doors down) for something. She'll be there and she'll be right on time (she follows the Mary Poppins philosophy. For real.)Thanks again!
