Despite occasional operational concerns, the existence of such a specialized, inclusive salon in the heart of Chicago makes it a vital service provider for complex, cultural hair needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My braider was over an hour late to the appointment. I asked for French curl braids, which in total including the break she took was 10 hours. I wouldn’t have minded the time spent but when we got towards the end I asked her if she was going to seal the ends. She waved the nail glue in my face claiming that the glue ALONE was enough to hold which simply was not true. For the price of 280 DOLLARS I should not have to argue about what I’m paying for nor should I have had to go home and knot them myself. Additionally multiple people came in with valid appointments showing confirmation emails which she turned away and there was a girl after me she had to take, which I feel led to her not wanting to put in the extra effort of sealing them properly.
August 28 · Naiomi ArguellesMy appointment was for 10am and we started closer to 11am which is fine. I’m a pretty patient person but I’m writing this review now because I paid a whole $300 for these small knotless braids and these are not the size I wanted. The parts and braids in the back are bigger than the front. I don’t even care if it would’ve taken more time, I just wanted them to be small like I asked. She used a lot of gel and I’ve been trying to wipe the crust out for a week.
December 08 · Malaika BergnerGreeting’s All.Amy, a hair stylist at Diva’s African Hair Studio is the absolute best. I’ve been getting my hair braided for 50 years and I’ve never had anyone braid my hair as beautiful as she did. I’ve been getting so many compliments from strangers on the street. They offer a huge variety of styles. And I’m more than confident you would be very satisfied. I highly recommend them if you want fantastic services.Best wishes,A.
May 03 · L MartiniMy appointment was for 8am. I did let her know that I would be about 10-15 minutes late due to the gps sending me to the wrong address. She said it was okay. I arrived and no one was there. When I called to tell her I arrived, she said she hadn’t made it there but would be on her way. I waited an hour and a half, almost 2, for someone to arrive. I finally got in the chair and one lady started braiding and my braids were medium sized like I requested. Mid way through, another lady came in and took over she began doing the braids very large. I told her the braids don’t match and the braids in the back were smaller and the braids in front were way too big. She said she would braid smaller but continued doing large braids. I have a lot of hair on my head and the large braids do not look cute on me which is why I requested the medium size. I gave two stars because they braid well and the parts are clean. But it’s not what I requested and what I voiced clearly didn’t matter (the front and back are two different sizes). The hour, almost 2 hours, late really did it for me. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate of peoples time.EDIT: The owner and her daughter contacted me and offered to fix my braids. They did it exactly how it should’ve been done and they did a great job!!! I updated my review to a 4. They were on time, took down the messed up braids and finished the new ones in a couple hours.
June 10 · Alexandria TaylorI really wish I had paid attention to the bad reviews before choosing this salon. I booked an appointment online for 10 a.m., but at 8:30 a.m., I got a call asking me to reschedule for 3 p.m. I thought, "No problem!" So, I showed up at the new time, only to find that three employees were busy with other clients. I was told I’d have to wait about 30 minutes — and I'm usually pretty patient, so I said okay. What followed was absolutely frustrating. That 30-minute wait stretched into a grueling 3-hour ordeal! Earlier, one of the staff had mentioned that two people would be braiding my hair due to the long wait, but when I finally got in the chair, only one woman was assigned to braid my hair. Not a single apology for the delay or anything.I ended up spending a total of eight hours in that salon, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., just to get shoulder-length box braids. The staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional, showing no understanding of customer service. I definitely won’t be returning, and I sincerely hope others think twice before wasting their time and money here.To top it all off, the braids in the front are unevenly parted in different shapes and sizes, which looks ridiculous unless I cover my face! The stylist clearly knew the outcome was a mess, but in my rush to leave, I didn’t check it out properly, and she used way to much product on my hair. Overall, it was a truly terrible experience. Save yourself the hassle!
