Curl Kitchen Salon Introduce
For residents across Illinois, finding a hair salon that specializes in and truly understands the unique needs of natural hair can be a challenge. Curl Kitchen Salon, located in the heart of Chicago, positions itself as a premier destination for natural hair care services. This salon has cultivated a reputation centered on the philosophy of healthy, stylish hair, offering specialized treatments designed to nourish, define, and manage natural curls and textures.
Operating as an appointment-only establishment, Curl Kitchen Salon emphasizes a dedicated, one-on-one service model, priding itself on not double-booking appointments. This approach is intended to ensure that every client receives the full attention required for quality results, whether they are seeking a transformative Silk Press, a careful trim, or a vibrant hair color. It is important for prospective clients to note that while the business has a core focus on delivering expert natural hair services and a personalized experience, feedback from the community can be mixed. Some customers report exceptional experiences, particularly for specialized services like wedding trials and cuts, highlighting excellent communication and satisfaction with the final style. Conversely, other reviews express significant disappointment regarding general service quality, hygiene, and strict business practices, including issues with communication and a perceived lack of professionalism. Clients are therefore encouraged to research thoroughly and set clear expectations regarding their service needs and the salon’s policies.

The salon also states that Appointments recommended, which, in practice, means booking ahead is essential to secure a time slot given their exclusive, no-double-booking model. Prospective clients should confirm all policies, particularly regarding scheduling, deposits, and service preparation, prior to their visit.
For individuals in the Illinois region with natural, curly, or coily hair, Curl Kitchen Salon offers a valuable, specialized resource. It is worth choosing primarily for its specific expertise in Natural Hair care, including in-demand services like the Silk Press, and its dedication to incorporating essential Steam Treatments for moisture and hair health. The commitment to a no-double-booking policy is also a significant draw, promising undivided attention from the stylist—a luxury often forfeited in busy, high-volume salons.
Furthermore, the fact that the business is a Black-owned and women-owned enterprise in Chicago is a powerful reason for many local users to choose it, supporting a business model rooted in community and cultural understanding. The welcoming, LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere is another positive factor in favor of the salon. However, potential clients must exercise due diligence. While the specialized services can yield excellent results, the presence of strong negative customer feedback concerning general professionalism, cleanliness, and strict adherence to policies suggests that consistency may be an issue. Clients with high standards for customer service and a low tolerance for scheduling rigidities should proceed with caution and verify all aspects of their booking to ensure a positive experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Vivian was fantastic. She did my wedding trial and then came to the house to do my wedding hair on the day. She was super communicative, punctual and my hair turned out exactly as I wanted. The team also did my sister and mum's hair and everyone was so happy.I did have issues with my initial stylist. After a trial I couldn't get hold of her. She didn't respond to calls or texts and after lots of back and forth with the salon owner, I was paired with Vivian and as mentioned, everything turned out perfect. Thank you to Curl Kitchen and Vivian.
September 08 · Claire SI went to this salon a while ago, and let me be blunt — it’s disgusting. The hair washing is sloppy, the work is mediocre, and it shows in their rating. A 3.8 ⭐️ isn’t a coincidence — it speaks volumes about the business and the kind of service you’ll get here.Pay attention: if you book through Vagaro, don’t trust the reviews. They pick and choose which reviews get posted. If you have a bad experience, they won’t “check you out” as a customer, which means your review never sees the light of day. That’s how they keep the rating from dropping even lower. This salon is for people with no standards, no taste, and no problem accepting anything that’s thrown at them. If you value professionalism, respect, and quality work — RUN. Don’t waste your money or your time. And to the owner — stop hiding behind the “support Black business” card. Not all Black businesses are good businesses, and yours is proof. Classy, educated professionals deserve better than this.
September 22 · Diana MarcusThis salon is fantastic! Booking is simple and hassle free the prices for the services are reasonable and the services offered varies. Shampoo & blow dry is included with all styles which is rare. The only fyi is that parking is meteroed. Other than that the actual salon, services offered, customer service and experience is 10/10.
October 02 · Kenyatta JohnsonI’m honestly very upset about my hair. I asked for mini knotless twists and ended up with medium/small traditional twists that have the obvious bump at the roots. This is not what I asked for at all. Knotless twists are supposed to be lightweight, flat, and free-flowing — what I got is heavy, stiff, and looks old-fashioned. I feel like I wasted my time and money because this is nothing like what I requested. Pictures are attached so you can see exactly what I mean.Coming from Washington, DC — where hair salons are top-tier — I was excited to try this place. I spoke directly with who I believe is the owner about getting mini twists for $400. She agreed, and I booked my appointment. Later, it was switched to Jasmine for 9/20/2025.When I arrived, they washed my hair and left me under the steamer for so long that by the time it shut off, I was sitting there cold until someone finally noticed me.While Jasmine was doing my hair, I asked if they were knotless and mini twists, and she told me yes. But they were NOT knotless, and they were NOT mini. If I’m paying $400 for a mini twist, I expect exactly that — not medium/small old-school twists with bumps at the roots.Frankly, I don’t think the owner knows what she’s doing or what she’s talking about. She even had the nerve to call me the next day (9/21/2025) about me paying $300 instead of $400 — which Jasmine herself agreed to after I pointed out that these were not minis. On top of that, I still tipped $50 just to be nice. Honestly, being nice clearly doesn’t pay — I should have just stuck to the $300 flat. This whole experience was unprofessional, overpriced, and frustrating. I will be telling my friends not to come here because the communication is terrible and the service does not match the price.my response to the owner Clare______________________________Clare, with all due respect, your response is extremely frustrating and feels dismissive of my experience.First of all, yes — I rescheduled once, but that has nothing to do with the fact that what I asked for and what I received were two completely different things. You keep repeating “traditional kinky twists,” but I clearly told you I wanted mini twists — and I confirmed with Jasmine while she was doing my hair that they were supposed to be mini and knotless. She told me “yes,” and then I ended up with medium twists with bumps at the roots. That’s not a “miscommunication,” that’s me not getting what I paid for.Second, you saying I was 19 minutes late is irrelevant — my appointment started late regardless because I was left sitting cold under the steamer after it turned off until someone finally noticed me. If your point is that you “still gave me the full steam,” that was not a favor — it’s basic customer service.Third, I did express my dissatisfaction while I was in the chair — multiple times — and Jasmine acknowledged it, which is why the price was dropped by $100. Pretending I just sat there silently is not true, and trying to frame this as me failing to communicate is unfair.Let’s be honest: if your salon doesn’t offer knotless twists, you should have been clear about that from the start — not confirm my appointment as if we were on the same page. If you’re going to charge $400, the service and communication should match that price point, and they absolutely did not.I paid $300, plus tipped $50 out of kindness, and still walked away completely unhappy with my hair. That is not okay. Instead of blaming me for “not communicating,” you might want to take this as real feedback on how your business communicates with clients and delivers on what they ask for.
September 22 · Olive ScotlandI went here awhile back to get my hair done. I booked an appointment for 1pm and arrive at the scheduled time. The lady washed my hair and said she would charge me an additional $15 for a detangling fee. She put me under the steamer for over 2 hours, and the water burned the back of my neck. She explained to me that a client booked the wrong appointment and had to attend to her first. This cuts into my time because I set up the appointment correctly, and to get serviced last because someone didn’t know how to follow instructions isn’t my problem. She didn’t start on my hair until like 5-6pm. She cut off more hair than what was included in the trim, and now I have bangs I didn’t ask for. I didn’t leave the shop until between 8pm-10pm. She left me under the dryer in the salon alone and I paid for a service that didnt meet my expectations. The hairstyle didn’t even last a day long, and my hair puffed up.
